The trial in the case of Ilhamiz Guliyev
The trial in the case of public activist Ilhamiz Guliyev, who was arrested on drug charges, continued on Thursday in the Baku Serious Crimes Court, chaired by Azer Tagiyev. Nijat Abdullayev, a police officer from the Yasamal district, acted as a witness at the trial. According to Turan, lawyer Zibeyda Sadigova, Guliyev said that it was this employee who put the drugs in his pocket. Guliyev reiterated the falsification of the charges. Sadigova drew attention to the fact that after his detention, Guliyev was not allowed to inform his family about this and invite his lawyer.
The next court hearing is scheduled for August 22, at which the remaining two witnesses, also police officers, are expected to be heard.
*Guliyev was detained on December 4, 2023, and on the 6th he was arrested for 4 months on charges of large-scale drug trafficking. However, the real reason for Guliyev's arrest is an interview with “Abzas Media”, where he spoke about illegal police actions and falsification of criminal cases. Human rights activists recognized Guliyev as a political prisoner.
