The USA is grateful to Azerbaijan for its contribution to the energy security of Europe - Geoffrey Pyatt

Baku/01.06.23/Turan: "The USA is grateful to Azerbaijan for its contribution to the energy security of Europe."

US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Jeffrey Pyatt, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, said this at a briefing for journalists today.

He noted that he had held a number of fruitful meetings in Azerbaijan and visited the Sangachal terminal on June 1.

At the same time, he stressed that he had the opportunity to see where the Southern Gas Corridor, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline begins.

According to him, these two pipelines began to play an important role in ensuring Europe's energy supply during the war in Ukraine.

"We support the Southern Gas Corridor project and its expansion, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership in the energy sector signed between Azerbaijan and the European Union in July last year. If it were not for Azerbaijan's support, the situation related to the energy crisis in Southern Europe would be more serious," Pyatt continued.

Located in a region with a complex geography and difficult neighbors, Azerbaijan also plays an important role in accessing the Western markets of Central Asia, and from this point of view, the United States also intends to maintain an energy partnership with Azerbaijan. "Because these are energy links of strategic importance," Pyatt said.

Jeffrey Pyatt added that the United States supports negotiations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on energy resources.

"We also appreciate your negotiations with Kazakhstan, the potential of using the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline to transport Kazakh crude oil," he added.

Pyatt also noted that the United States positively assesses Azerbaijan's activities in the field of green energy development.

"Large-scale projects in the field of "green hydrogen" are being implemented in the USA. During the visit, I was also informed about Azerbaijan's opportunities in the field of wind and other types of "green energy," he said.-16d-
