Baku/01.10.23/Turan: On October 1, a United Nations mission consisting of representatives of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs landed in the Karabakh economic region of Azerbaijan, which was an important step in assessing the current situation in the region.

This mission, organized in cooperation with the Government of Azerbaijan, follows the agreement reached between Azerbaijan and the UN on September 28.

At a briefing held on September 29, Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary General, stressed the importance of this mission, saying: "We have not had access to Nagorno-Karabakh for 30 years. Therefore, it is important that we are finally able to get there. On the spot, the team will assess the current situation and determine the humanitarian needs of both those who remained in the region and those who are leaving it."

The exact duration of the presence of the UN mission in Karabakh remains uncertain, and Dujarric could not name the final dates. However, the arrival of the mission marks an important step towards understanding the ongoing humanitarian problems in the region.

At the same time, in Khankendi, a working group consisting of officials of the Migration Service and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Azerbaijan initiated the reception of documents from Karabakh Armenians applying for Azerbaijani citizenship. It is noteworthy that the first statements from local Armenians expressing a desire to become citizens of Azerbaijan have already appeared in the region.

The assessment of the UN mission and the developing situation in Karabakh are of considerable interest to the international community. As the mission examines the humanitarian needs of the region and as individuals make choices about their citizenship, these developments have implications for the ongoing transition period in the region and its future stability.-0--
