U.S. Ambassador Visits Azerbaijani Regions

U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar visited Kurdemir, Ganja, and Mingachevir February 21-23.  The purpose of his visit was to meet the people of central and western Azerbaijan and to learn about and support U.S.-Azerbaijani cooperation in the region. 

 
Ambassador Morningstar met with Kurdemir Executive Committee Chief Irshad Aliyev, Ganja District Executive Committee Chief Elmar Valiyev, and Mingachevir District Executive Committee Chief Niyazi Bayramov during this visit to discuss economic, agricultural, educational, and cultural developments in the region.  
 
The Ambassador also met with American Peace Corps volunteers who are engaged in local projects with Azerbaijani partners.  He visited the American centers in Kurdemir and Ganja, where he spoke with local youth about U.S.-Azerbaijani relations.   He also toured the Ganja Agrarian University, the Intelligent Citizen Center, and the GTM Youth Center.  
 
The Ambassador and his wife, Faith, also learned about the area’s rich history during their visit.   They toured Ganja’s Khanbagi park, Javad Khan mausoleum, and Nizami Ganjavi mausoleum, the press service of the U.S. Embassy reports.—0-
