U.S. Calls For Deescalation, Encourages Continued Dialogue Between Azerbaijan, Armenia
Washington on Monday called for deescalation and encouraged continued dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia, TURAN's U.S. correspondent reports.
Assistant Secretary of State Karen Donfried spoke with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov "regarding Armenia and Azerbaijan's historic opportunity to achieve peace," State Department said via its Europe and Eurasia division Twitter account.
She "reiterated the U.S. offer to help facilitate regional transportation and communication links," according to the Department.
No further details have been provided.
The move came just a week after Secretary Antony Blinken spoke separately with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, in which he offered the U.S. assistance in facilitating regional transportation and communication linkages.
