U.S. Committed to Work with Azerbaijan on Development
Baku/28.02.18/Turan: Mr. Brock Bierman, Assistant Administrator for United States Agency for International Development"s (USAID) Bureau for Europe and Eurasia, arrived in Azerbaijan on February 25 for a three-day visit, reads US Embassy press release.
Mr. Bierman met with Mr. Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Taxation, Mr. Elchin Amirbayov, Assistant to First Vice President, Mr. Heydar Asadov, Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Sahil Babayev, Deputy Minister of Economy, Mr. Mahmud Mammadguliyev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and other government representatives, to discuss bilateral cooperation in development between the United States and Azerbaijan.
Mr. Bierman discussed foreign assistance to Azerbaijan in a meeting with international organizations and institutions represented in Azerbaijan, including the European Union, the United Nations, Council of Europe, World Bank, and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Earlier in the week, he also met with representatives of civil society organizations to learn about their activities and experiences.
"Our aim is to work with countries and be their partners in development. I am here to confirm the U.S. commitment to work alongside Azerbaijan to meet our mutual goals of a more secure, democratic, and prosperous future for Azerbaijan. We look forward to increased support from the Azerbaijani government so that we may effectively contribute to Azerbaijan"s development for the benefit of the Azerbaijani people," Mr. Bierman said during his visit.
On February 28, Mr. Bierman will travel to Khachmaz to meet with community members and beneficiaries of the projects supported by USAID and co-funded by the Government of Azerbaijan.
This is Brock Bierman"s second trip to Azerbaijan. He first visited in 2003 when he was serving as USAID Europe and Eurasia Bureau"s Chief of Staff. Mr. Bierman has considerable experience from previous leadership positions with the state of Rhode Island"s House of Representatives, USAID, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Department of the Interior, and the private sector, as well as extensive knowledge of the region. From 2002-2007, he served as Chief of Staff in USAID"s Bureau for Europe and Eurasia, where he helped implement strategic priorities for the Bureau and provided oversight of conflict mitigation, democracy, health, and trade initiatives within the region. He also managed all aspects of the Bureau"s public outreach activities. -0-
