U.S. 'Concerned' About Any Activity Of Wagner Group, State Dept Says
Washington D.C./02.11.23/Turan: The United States said on Wednesday that it's concerned about any activity by the Russian Wagner mercenary group, including after reports of the resumption of recruitment by the group's militants.
"We always have concerns about Wagner Group’s activities, whether they be in Ukraine or whether they are anywhere in Africa, which is why we’ve taken a number of actions to hold them accountable over the past" State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller told TURAN's Washingron correspondent during a daily briefing.
Earlier on Wednesday Russian media reported that the Wagner Group became a unit of Rosgvardia, a Russian national guard, and resumed recruiting soldiers in particular in Perm and Novosibirsk.
Following the death of the group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin and other senior figures in a plane crash in August, the Kremlin had pushed the narrative that the mercenary group 'no longer legally exist", amid reports that its militias in Belarus signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defence and moved to the eastern front in Ukraine. Some of them later appeared in Africa, according to media reports.
