US Diplomat: We Value Ideals of Azerbaijan People's Republic
Baku /05.06.18/ Turan: Reception was held in the US Embassy in Baku the day before on the occasion of the 242nd anniversary of the declaration of independence of the United States.
Speaking to the participants of the ceremony, William R. Gil, US Chargé d'Affaires in Azerbaijan, said the Americans celebrate July 4 as a day of democracy and commemorate those who fought for freedom.
These values were reflected in the Declaration of Independence.
"We consider this as a truth that does not require proof. All people are created equal. The creator gave people the rights of inviolability, including the rights to life, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness," the diplomat said.
According to him, Americans are open to debate and respect for different opinions. "We appreciate the differences among people. We understand that people are connected by ties stemming from history, culture, beliefs and principles," said William R. Gil.
He also noted that this year the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan People's Republic is celebrated and the inhabitants of the country celebrate it as a source of pride and opportunity to think about the values that have flashed in the region and the world.
"These are the values of democracy and equality, commitment to freedom of religion and ethnic tolerance. We welcome the progressive ideals of the Azerbaijan People's Republic, as President Woodrow Wilson did 100 years ago. We remember them with you with respect. Both Azerbaijanis and Americans know that a respectful attitude towards historical memory allows us to understand what path we have taken and to determine where we are moving as a society," the American diplomat noted.
He recalled that the United States has always been together with Azerbaijan immediately after the restoration of its independence.
"We continue to work together with the Azerbaijani people to support the independence, stability and prosperity of Azerbaijan. I believe that working together we can build for our countries a better, free and happy future," William R. Gil said.
Speaking on behalf of the Azerbaijani government, Finance Minister Samir Sharifov noted that the bilateral relations are developing on the basis of mutual interests.
Azerbaijan supports the United States in its international anti-terrorist activities.
The US, for its part, strongly supports global energy projects implemented with the participation of Azerbaijan.
Baku, according to Sharifov, appreciates the attitude of President Donald Trump to Azerbaijan, and his support for the implementation of energy projects.
He expressed conviction that the bilateral cooperation will be strengthened. Azerbaijan also hopes for the enhancement of US efforts as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group for a just solution of the Karabakh conflict. -06D--
