US Embassy Interested in Anar Mammadov Case
Baku / 21.12.18 / Turan: The editor of the website Criminalaz.com Anar Mammadov, together with his lawyers, was at a meeting at the US Embassy yesterday.
During the conversation with the Embassy"s political counselor Christian Singh and the press secretary Nathan Jones, the situation around the criminal case against the editor was discussed.
"We had extensive discussions with diplomats about the state of freedom of the press in Azerbaijan, and about the trial of my case that will start the other day," Mammadov said, without revealing details.
Recall that on July 9, the Prosecutor General"s Office opened a criminal case on the dissemination to the Internet of "false information" and "illegal appeals" in connection with the attempt on the life of Ganja"s Chief Executive Elmar Veliyev and the energy blackout in Mingachevir last summer.
After that, the prosecutor's office appealed to the Ministry of Communications to block the sites Bastainfo.com, Criminalaz.com, Topxeber.az and Fia.az.
On November 30, Mammadov was transferred to the status of the accused. In particular, he was charged under the Criminal Code: 281.2 (appeals against the state), 309.2 (abuse of office) and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code.
Similar accusations were also made against Bastainfo"s editor Mustafa Hajibeyli. -05B06-
