U.S. Engages With Russia, Syria, On Its Citizens' Release — State Department
The State Department said on Monday that the Biden administration is speaking with the Russian government about WNBA star Brittney Griner’s case.
"We’re in communication with Russian officials on the serious, substantial proposal that we put forward," Department spokesman Ned Price told TURAN's Washington correspondent at a daily press briefing.
"We are going to do everything we can to see the release of Paul Whelan, to see the release of Brittney Griner. We’re not going to speak to the details of that. But we will continue to urge the Russians to engage constructively so that we can bring this to a resolution," Price added.
State Department spokesman also renewed pledge to secure return of U.S. journalist believed to be held by Syrian government.
Washington ‘directly engaged’ with Syrian officials on the Austin Tice case, Price said.
"We will continue to pursue every avenue that we feel has the opportunity to create the conditions for Austin’s release," he added.
