Yerevan Asks International Financial Institutions to Return Illegally Exported Capital to Armenia

Baku / 10.08.18 / Turan: First Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan stated that he appealed to the leadership of the World Bank to receive assistance from the Stolen Asset Recovery Initiative (a structure created with the UN) to identify and return the property stolen in the country and exported abroad.

According to the Armenian media, this was announced at yesterday's meeting of the Armenian government.

Thus, the Zhoghovurd newspaper reports that arrests have been imposed on accounts of a number of former state officials of Armenia in foreign banks. In addition, a number of embassies included these officials in their "black lists" - they will not be issued visas so they cannot escape from justice, writes Lragir.

According to other sources, the main object of interest of the new Armenian authorities are the funds owned by ex-President Robert Kocharian and the family of another former President Serzh Sargsyan. According to the same sources, Kocharian's capital is invested in the South African Republic and in India.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that, if they are "shaken up", then billions of dollars can be returned to the country. -02D-
