Ilgar Mammadovs Trial Postponed for Indefinite Time
Sheki / 10.08.18 / Turan: A new trial on the case of the leader of the REAL Party Ilgar Mammadov was postponed for an indefinite time in the Sheki Court of Appeal on August 10. This was officially motivated by the absence of the state prosecutor.
However, activists saw the prosecutor in the courthouse.
Mammadov's supporters believe the authorities postponed the trial due to the arrival of a large number of representatives of civil society, opposition politicians and Western diplomats in Baku.
Mammadov was sentenced to 7 years in prison on charges of organizing riots in Ismayilli in 2013. However, the European Court twice decided on the groundlessness of this decision.
After that, the plenum of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan annulled the previous decisions of local courts on June 29 and sent the case for re-examination to the Sheki Court of Appeal.-0-

In the stillness of New Year’s Eve, as fireworks lit up the sky over Zagatala, Azerbaijan, a much grimmer scene unfolded. Around 15 stray dogs, accustomed to gathering at the Danachi landfill on the outskirts of the city, were shot by unknown assailants. The timing, coinciding with the fireworks, likely masked the sound of gunfire, ensuring that the heinous act went unnoticed until dawn.
