Yerevan is not happy with statements of Russian deputies on Khojaly
Baku / 27.02.19 / Turan: Yerevan expressed concern over the participation of a group of Russian deputies in events in Baku dedicated to the 27th anniversary of the Khojaly massacre.
For example, Ararat Mirzoyan, the speaker of the Armenian parliament in Moscow, speaking in the Russian State Duma, stated that Armenia favors a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict "taking into account the realities in the region and based on the fundamental principles of international law, in particular the right of peoples to self-determination." Mirzoyan, for some reason, forgot another principle of settlement, as territorial integrity.
Then he expressed his dissatisfaction with the visit of a group of Russian deputies to Baku. "I state with regret, that despite the high level and allied cooperation between our countries, as well as the consistent efforts of the Russian side aimed at the peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict, some of our Russian colleagues just yesterday participated in a pronounced anti-Armenian rally held in Baku aimed at undermining sustainable peace and stability in the region. Moreover, the participation of the members of the Russian-Armenian Inter-Parliamentary Commission in this event causes a fair bewilderment," said Mirzoyan.
A group of Russian deputies took part in a march dedicated to the memory of Khojaly victims, and then made statements about the need to recognize these events as genocide. -02D-
