Zaur Fatizade appointed head of Financial Monitoring Service

Together with Ambassador Libby, U.S. Department of State Deputy Assistant Secretary Joshua Huck met with family members of detained human rights defender Rufat Safarov, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty journalist and economist Farid Mehralizada, and Abzas Media editor-in-chief Sevinj Vagifgizi.

In the evening of December 6, journalists of Meydan TV online edition - Aynur Elgunesh, Aitaj Tapdyg, Natik Javadli, Ramin Jabrailzade (Deco), Hayala Agayeva - were detained in Baku. They were taken to the Baku City Police Department, people close to the journalists said.

From December 3 to 5, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe met in Strasbourg to discuss the implementation of judgments from the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) by Council of Europe member states. As a result of the discussions, 42 decisions were made concerning 19 countries, according to the press service of the Council of Europe. Several of these decisions were related to Azerbaijan.

In December, staff from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited Armenians detained in Azerbaijan. According to an ICRC statement, the detainees were provided with the opportunity to communicate with their families.
