Baku / 05.10.20 / Turan: On October 4, late in the evening, the Armenian Armed Forces launched a missile attack on the city of Mingachevir and the power center located there. One of the missiles fell in front of Mingechevir TPP did not burst. Another rocket fell near a residential building and did not explode either. Only the third missile hit a private house and destroyed it, seriously injuring five of its inhabitants. The energy system of Azerbaijan was not damaged.
Today Ganja was again fired; rockets were launched from the Berd region of Armenia.
Is Azerbaijan, which is considered a regional center of the electric power industry, production, processing and transit of oil and gas products, capable of protecting its main economic potential - oil and gas pipelines, energy facilities?
The expert Ilham Shaban answered these questions.
- How our gas and oil pipelines are technically protected?
- People's euphoria reigns in Azerbaijan because of the liberation of the occupied lands, but we must remember about the danger. The Armenians had previously threatened to destroy the Mingachevir hydroelectric power station. However, their weapons are old and does not give the desired result.
The Azerbaijani pipelines are buried in the ground and protected by a 20 cm concrete jacket. However, we saw a 10-meter crater in Ter-Ter, shown by one of the TV channels, formed from a rocket explosion. Such a blow poses a threat to pipelines.
- Should foreign companies participating in Azerbaijani projects somehow participate in ensuring the security of these facilities?
- The contracts clearly state that all safety issues during the operation of pipelines are assigned to the government of Azerbaijan. When determining the route of these four pipelines, the state knew that Shamkir and Gedabey, through which they were laid, were close. This means that the duty of the Ministry of Defense is to protect these facilities from enemy attacks.
In July 2020, the aim of the aggression of Armenians in Tovuz was to get to these objects, a terrorist group was sent to Azerbaijan, rendered harmless by our soldiers. Then the army fulfilled its task. Yesterday, two missiles launched from the territory of Armenia at Absheron and Khizi fell in the Khizi region and in the Absheron region, immediately adjacent to Baku. Both missiles had a range of up to 300 km. Armenians can shoot at the Sangachal oil terminal, Oil Rocks, deep-water base plant, etc.
All missile attacks on any targets in Azerbaijan must be repelled, and the country has purchased the necessary air defense systems. On the first day of the war, we were able to destroy 15 OSA anti-aircraft weapons in Nagorno-Karabakh.
- In Azerbaijan, some experts call in response to strike at the Armenian Metsamor nuclear power plant.
- Such offers are unacceptable. Nuclear objects cannot be bombed if they explode, people living in the distance will be injured. The residents of Nakhchivan and Turkey will find themselves in the affected zone; under favorable weather conditions, the radiation pressure will reach Baku. Armenia has a better goal - a hydroelectric complex near Yerevan, with a dam and a large reservoir. Azerbaijan should not stoop to the level of Armenians and shoot at economic targets. At the same time, I consider it correct to destroy the electrical substation in Khankendi by our missiles, since it also fed the enemy's military installations. Now this entire city is powered by diesel generators.
- Azerbaijan supplies oil to Europe. Can European countries watch indifferently as Armenia tries to destroy our export pipelines?
- When Georgia was at war in South Ossetia in 2008, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline stopped working for a week. Nothing happened to Europe, they did not help Georgia. The same is with Azerbaijan. We were left alone with an insidious aggressor who does not hesitate to face a war crime. The army is tracking missile launch points in Armenian territory. Therefore, the launchers must be destroyed urgently and thoroughly. This is the only way to solve the problem. -0-
