Azerbaijan's first news program on world television channels

Baku/26.08.20/Turan: After several broadcasts in the preparatory stage, a weekly news program of Azerbaijan will be broadcast on Swedish Public Television on August 30. This will be Azerbaijan's first news program on world TV channels. Programs lasting up to 10 minutes each are prepared in English. The issues are mainly based on materials and plots of Turan, Ayna-Zerkalo, Press Club and partly other sites.

Chairman of Press Club, Arif Aliyev, answers Turan's questions about the new project:

- In any case, it is not an ordinary project. What is its main purpose?

- Of course, the main purpose is to better promote Azerbaijan in the world, in particular, in the Scandinavian countries, to form a correct image of our problems, successes, and goals in the international audience. We also try to deliver information about the events taking place in Azerbaijan, related to regional and global processes, directly to the audience, without any filters, and to use the vast potential of foreign channels. We are confident that such an approach will help increase interest in Azerbaijan and increase its friends.

- Usually, programs about another country on foreign channels consist of historical materials and are devoted to cultural topics. Is it the same here?

- No, we are talking about a news program in the full sense of the word. In our last three programs, so to speak, the test issues were dominated by topics related to the economy, the Karabakh war, the fight against the coronavirus, foreign and even domestic policy. There are only two requirements: the news should not be local, that is, it should be interesting for foreign audiences and high professional standards should be followed.

- How does the process work technically?

- We select the news here, they are read and filmed by Press Club TV, the final editing is completed by our partner International Media Group's SAMM TV channel in Stockholm, and the program airs on Sunday evening.

- How did you reach an agreement with Swedish Public Television?

- The leading role here belongs to Rahim Sadigbayli, chairman of the International Media Group and also head of the Scandinavian bureau of the Press Club. He has previously collaborated with the same television with the support of the Committee for Work with the Diaspora, and we have been associated with it.

- Last question: do you plan to expand the project?

- We have been working on the same plan with the International Media Group in several other countries with public broadcasting systems. Unfortunately, for some reason, including the closure of borders due to the coronavirus still limits the opportunities.
