Firuz Dadashov Proud of Hoisting Azerbaijan Flag over Mount Ushba
In September, the sports community of Azerbaijan heard of great success of the climber from the Touring Club of Trade Unions, member of the Mountaineering Federation of Azerbaijan Firuz Dadashov.
On 17 October Firuz with his Georgian partner Irakli Gubdzhabizde conquered the most beautiful and coveted peak of the Caucasus, Mount Ushba (4,700 m).
The dream of all climbers, one of the most technically complex, and therefore inaccessible peaks of the Caucasus was conquered by our fellow countryman for the first time during the independence of Azerbaijan.
Climbing Mount Ushba has always been not only difficult, but also very dangerous. It was on this mountain that most of the casualties happened. Steep walls require good preparation of the climber, physical endurance and mental strength. When climbing Ushba, the climber sees deep gorges underneath, into which he may fall under a single error.
"I'm awfully glad and happy that I did it. I was able to realize the dream of generations of our climbers. To climb the 5th category of complexity on Gabriel Hergiani’s route is a remarkable achievement.
I have climbed almost every seven-thousand-meter peaks of the former USSR, but Ushba is no less difficult climb, despite the fact that it is 2.5 kilometers lower. If we talk about the technical side, Ushba is much more difficult," Dadashov said in an interview with Turan.
"We were able to overcome not only the most beautiful and challenging peak of the Caucasus, but also to break the psychological barrier for the first time to raise the flag of independent Azerbaijan over the top. Now Azerbaijani climbers will be easier.
Next season I plan to win the last seventhousander, Victory, and close the title Snow Leopard." If it does not work, then we will prepare for the passage of new sophisticated wall routes in the Caucasus, Chatyn or Shkhelda," Dadashov said in conclusion. -02B-
