PFPA Deputy Chairman: Statements on Reforms are Fiction
Baku / 03.03.20 / Turan: The parliamentary elections on February 9 did not have any significant impact on political life in Azerbaijan, the deputy chair of the Popular Front Party Seymour Hazi said. In an interview with the Azerbaijani Voice of America service, he said that, in fact, there was no pre-election promotion and a maximum of 70-100 people attended the pre-election meetings.
Hazi believes that the decisions of the National Council of Democratic Forces and the Popular Front Party on the boycott of the elections were justified. "The general attitude of people to the vote and low turnout confirmed that the decision of the NCDF and PFPA was adequate to the situation."
Hazi does not expect anything positive from the new parliament, for 80% of the new parliament are the same deputies, and the remaining 20% are pro-government people.
“They did not introduce any new platform and were “elected” by the old falsification method. Therefore, they will speak from some social position and will become the spokesmen of democracy,” said Khazi.
The politician predicts a further deepening of the social crisis and growing dissatisfaction of the population, since the parliament will not continue to express the aspirations of the people.
About the dialogue between the government and the opposition, Hazi said that even on such a national issue as the Karabakh conflict, a hostile attitude towards the opposition is manifested. An example of this is the detention during the action of commemoration of the victims of the Khojaly tragedy of the adviser to the head of the Popular Front Party Mamed Ibrahim. —16D-
