Rufat Safarov: I am not afraid of arrest, torture and even intolerable conditions
Rufat Safarov, the former investigator of the Zardab Regional Prosecutor's Office called a lawsuit aginst him contrived. He drew attention to the fact that the complaints appeared after he criticized the situation in law enforcement agencies.
Today Kamran Aliyev, the head of the Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General's Office, announced the start of a criminal case against Safarov under the Article 311 (bribery) of the Criminal Code.
In an interview with "Voice of America" Safarov said that when he worked there were not any complaints against. " The complaints appeared after my resignation and supporting people. Of course, I regard it as absurd. I will not accept the charge against me, I consider it politically motivated. The chnarges are purely biased, not objective and unsubstantiated charges,"- Safarov said.
He has not receive yet summons to the prosecutor as a witness, a suspect or an accused person.
Safarov believes that the possible impetus for initiating a lawsuit against him became his appeal to the people of Zardab region.
" Through the "Voice of America" I want to state that I am not afraid of arrest, severe torture, the most unbearable conditions. I'm ready for it both mentally and physically. My support is the people. For I know miserable condition in the law enforcement agencies. I t hope on people, and probably will be with them," Safarov said. Are there any particular facts that may be used against him? Answering this question, he called ridiculous the assertion that he had received bribes. Not any complaint was made to the Anti-Corruption department against me during five years of my functioning in the Zardab regional prosecutor's office.
With regard to further political activity, Safarov said that it is not necessarily to join any political party.
Safarov said in his statements he expressed activecivil position as a lawyer and citizen. "And in the future I will express my personal opinions. Likelihood I will continue to fight as individual citizen," Safarov said.
Safarov is the son of Eldar Sabiroglu, former Member of Parliament and one of the founders of the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan", who last year publicly criticized Ramiz Mehdiyev, the head of the presidential administration.
In December, in the press Safarov publicly criticized the authorities for violations of the law and the poor activity of law enforcement agencies. After that Safarov said about the resignation. However, prosecutors stated that safarov was dismissed "for improper conduct."
On December 21, Safarov's apartment was searched, the phone and computer were seized. In protest Safarov went on hunger strike. -16D-
