Russia is not against the war of Azerbaijan in Karabakh - Sergey Markov

Baku / 07.10.19 / Turan: Russia does not prohibit Azerbaijan from fighting for Karabakh and use weapons purchased from Russia. Moreover, President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that the CSTO is authorized to protect the territorial integrity of Armenia, and is not going to participate in the armed conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. However, President Aliyev knows that the war can drag out and cause great human casualties. So he is right, preferring to solve the problem through negotiations, stated in an interview with Turan the Director General of the Institute for Political Studies NP, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, Sergey Markov. "There are no bans from Russia," he added.

Commenting on Azerbaijan"s purchases of Russian weapons, the Russian political scientist said, "The presence of great weapons potential in Azerbaijan is a good motive for Armenia to agree on a peaceful solution to the Karabakh problem."

Markov is in Baku and held a press conference on October 7.

"The Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan wants to release Armenia; he is ready to agree with the Kazan plan for resolving the Karabakh problem (lifting the blockade, starting economic relations with Azerbaijan, giving Karabakh a temporary status in exchange for the return of the seven regions around it - ed.). However, Pashinyan is afraid of radical Armenian groups that could blow him up, shoot him, as they did with the Armenian parliament in 1999 or seize the police station (Sasna Tsrer group - Ed.).

Pashinyan fears Lebanese and Syrian fighters of Armenian nationality, therefore, the solution to the Karabakh problem is shifted to the leadership of Karabakh. There, next year, the presidential election, therefore, we must wait until a stable power is established there, but Azerbaijan is tired of waiting," Markov continued.

He believes that Moscow is putting pressure on Pashinyan, demanding that he soon complete the uncertainty with Karabakh. "Moscow highly appreciates the patience of Azerbaijan," he said.

Pashinyan formed as a pro-Western politician, but being in power realized that Armenia should improve relations with the West without spoiling them with Russia. In this sense, we can say that Pashinyan wants to repeat the phenomenon of Azerbaijan, which built equally beneficial relations with the West and Russia, Markov said.

The political scientist recognized the strength of the Armenian lobby in the Russian media, counting the famous names: Mitrofanov, Simonyan, Baghdasarov, Kurginyan, Balayan, Shakhnazarov, and others. They do not allow Russian society to listen to the position of Azerbaijan. On the other hand, the Karabakh issue is not interesting among the broad Russian masses. In the absence of Azerbaijani influence on the Moscow media, Markov accused Baku, which should actively work in this direction, he added. -0-
