12% of Crimes in Azerbaijan Drug Related
Baku / 16.02.19 / Turan: Of the 26,381 crimes committed in Azerbaijan in 2018, 12.3% are related to illegal trafficking in narcotic and psychotropic substances. This is stated by the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.
At the same time, 57.1% of these crimes did not pursue the goal of selling drugs, but these substances were larger than the amount for personal use.
33.3% of drug crimes were committed with the intention of marketing, production and transfer, 7.2% were related to the illegal cultivation of narcotic plants, and 2.2% were related to the turnover of strong and poisonous drugs.
During the reporting period, 2,492 people were involved in the trafficking of narcotic or psychotropic substances. 99% of them are prosecuted.
86.2% of drug offenders were unemployed and uneducated, and 37.2% were previously prosecuted. 0.2% of offenders are minors, 6.9% are 18-24 years old, 13% are 25-29 years old, and 79.9% are 30 and older. - 06D--

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
