Baku / 15.09.20 / Turan: The former "prisoner of conscience" journalist Afgan Mukhtarli, who is  in political emigration in Germany,  has been on a hunger strike for 9 days in Berlin in front of the office of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

According to him, the action is being held in solidarity with the opposition politician Tofig Yagublu, convicted in Azerbaijan, who has been on a hunger strike for 14 days.

"Over the past time, 15 people, political emigrants, have joined the hunger strike. The  health  of some has worsened. Orkhan Agayev was taken to hospital by an ambulance on the 4th day of the hunger strike," Mukhtarli said.

The journalist believes that President Ilham Aliyev should release Tofig Yagublu in the near future. Otherwise, he will be held responsible for his death.

According to him, international organizations and individual public officials of Germany are keenly interested in the Yagublu case.

"In general, in the history of Germany there has never been a protest in front of the Chancellor's office, where people set up tents and went on a hunger strike for 10 days. German society is very sensitive to this hunger strike. Ordinary citizens come up to us and offer to stop the action and stop the action. International organizations and officials. They also urge us to end the hunger strike,” Mukhtarli said.
