A penitentiary complex has been put into operation in the village of Umbaki

On November 17, a new mixed-regime penitentiary complex was commissioned in the village of Umbaki (40 km south of Baku). Justice Minister Fikret Mammadov was present at the opening of the complex.

The new Umbaki complex is built according to international standards and consists of two zones - a penitentiary and a pre-trial detention center. Convicted persons deprived of liberty for serious and other crimes will be held in an institution, and the accused - in a pre-trial detention center.

In a complex with a total number of seats for 1300 people, 19 chamber-type buildings, in which all conditions are created. The necessary conditions have also been created for the work of investigators, lawyers and conducting investigative actions.

Special rooms with the necessary equipment have been created for remote participation of prisoners in court sessions via videoconferencing, as well as telephone conversations and video broadcasts.

There are also medical and sanitary buildings with modern medical equipment for the work of a cardiologist, dentist, therapist, ultrasound, operating room, laboratory, pharmacy.

The complex provides facilities for providing psychological assistance to prisoners, rooms for short-term visits.

A library, a TV room, sports grounds, infrastructure for education and professional qualifications, hairdressers and sewing rooms have been created for convicts.

In recent years, new penitentiary service complexes have been put into operation in the village of Kurdakhany, Nakhchivan and Sheki, and their construction continues in the city of Ganja and Lankaran.
