A police officer is fired for refusing to testify against members in the case of "Ismayilli case"

Trial in the case of riots in Ismayilly  region   on 23-24 January 2014  continued in In Sheki Court of Appeal today. On March 17, 2013 Sheki  Serious Crimes Court sentenced 18 people for participating and organizing riots in Ismayilly.

Leader of the movement REAL Ilgar Mammado was imprisoned to seven  years, deputy chairman of the party "Musavat" Tofig Yagublu to five  years. Both were  recognized  by Amnesty International  as "prisoners of conscience." Other eight people were sentenced to up to eight  years in prison. The same number of defendants received suspended sentences.

At  the morning  trial three witnesses were absent. One of them, Alava Badalov, brother of the chief  of Mingechaur Police Department, reported that he was  sick. This provoked  a protest by the  accused Anar Hasanov, according to whom, Badalov  is a key witness who can confirm that Hasanov  was calming  protesters.

After a short break, it was announced that two other witnesses will come in the afternoon. Thereafter, at the request of the accused Vasif Ibrahimov was shown a video to the ATV channel of his interview during the riots.

In an interview Vasif Ibrahimov comment on it, said that local residents were  outraged by the arbitrariness of the chief executive, oppression  of entrepreneurs by  officials,  extortion  money from them, the demolition of commercial buildings, and others. Ibrahimov believes that he is being persecuted for doing this interview.

In the afternoon gave testimonies Faraj Aziz,  a former employee of the police  of Ismayilli region.

He did not confirm the illegal actions of any of the accused. The same thing he said, and the preliminary investigation,  and under the  far-fetched pretext he  was dismissed from the police.

Today, a former police officer reiterated that the accused Saftar Agamaliyev calmed protesters.

Lawyer Fuad Agayev petitioned to exclude from the case records of district police departments and MNS for allegedly inciting Mamedov and Tofig Yagublu for illegal acts.

He noted that  it was not confirmed in numerous testimonies and video viewed in  the court. However, the court rejected the petition.
