Action in support of Tofig Yagublu
Baku / 08.09.20 / Turan: On Tuesday a group of activists of the Popular Front Party held a rally in support of the opposition politician Tofig Yagublu in the village of Bina near the Themis monument.
The women came to the action with their hands tied and their mouths tied, and they hung posters on their necks with the slogans: "Freedom!", "Immediately release Tofig Yagublu!", "Resign!"
“It was no coincidence that we held an action at the Themis monument with our hands and mouths closed. For there are no rights and justice in the country. Those who demand this are sent to prison, like Tofig Yagublu. We demand freedom for Yagublu and all political prisoners,” said one of the protesters.
Another participant of the action said: "In this country, it is not the law, but the will of the shah that is in force." “We want to live in a free, fair and democratic society. However, this is impossible under the current government,” she said. The picket took place without police intervention.
A member of the National Council of Democratic Forces and the Musavat party, Tofig Yagublu, was sentenced on September 3 to 4 years and 3 months in prison. In prison, he began a hunger strike, which lasts for 7 days. International organizations condemned the verdict. Amnesty International recognized him as a “prisoner of conscience.” - 06D-
