Baku/08.05.14/Turan : Youth activist Dashgin Melikov today was released from prison. In accordance with the decision of the Khazar district court, he was released on parole in connection with the departure of one-third term of sentence. Melikov’s father said that the decision to parole was taken because a young person suffered from asthma. Active user of Facebook, Melikov, was arrested on March 25, 2013, July 3, and sentenced to 2.5 years in prison on charges of drug possession. He was recognized by Amnesty International as "prisoner of conscience."
While in custody on the eve of presidential elections in October 2013, he issued a statement in which he announced the release of PPFA, and the intention to join the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan."
"We are happy to the release of Dashgin. The young man was seriously ill and finally released," said Seymour Khazy, a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Majlis PPFA. –06D-
