Activists Detained in Lankaran Released from Police

Baku/02.02.21/Turan: A member of the Student Power Center Ahmed Mammadli detained in front of Lankaran State University on February 1 and other student activists Orkhan Iskenderli and Samir Akhundzadeh were released today.

A D-18 activist Jalil Zabidov, who was detained this morning, was also released.

Mammadli told Turan about it. According to him, the police drew up a protocol on the violation of the rules of the quarantine regime and social distance by the detainees.

“But that was not true. There were three of us in front of the university and we kept a social distance. And Zabidov was detained today. We were taken to court. There, the judge took into account what we said and acquitted us,” Mammadli said.

According to him, on February 1, the police inquired the activists about their activities until midnight. «We were told that we are oppositionists and asked where we get funding from, etc.,» Mammadli said.

A journalist Nurlan Libre and an activist Rustam Ismailbeyli were also detained in Lankaran today. They were kept in the police for five hours, fingerprinted, and then sent from Lankaran back to Baku, ordered "not to appear here again." They themselves told reporters about this.

The activists were detained in front of Lankaran State University on February 1 while Mammadli was reading out a protest statement «against the difficult and unfair conditions of the winter exam session» and against the requirement for students to immediately pay the annual tuition fee.      –06D-
