Ali Hasanov: Fight between Azerbaijanis and Chechens Criminal Incident
Baku / 15.02.19 / Turan: Official Baku expressed its attitude to the mass brawl in the Moscow cafe Neolithic with the participation of Azerbaijanis and Chechens.
The mass brawl took place on February 14 at the cafe Neolithic on the 1st Kuryanovskaya Street in Moscow. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, "on February 14 at about 10.40 pm there was a conflict of about 20 people in the cafe. As it is supposed, it was on domestic grounds. During the incident, unidentified people fired shots from a traumatic weapon. As a result, one man was injured. After rendering medical aid he was released".
According to Russian media, earlier one of the representatives of Chechnya in a verbal skirmish insulted a native of Azerbaijan, whose compatriots found and beat the offender later. The fighting with shooting became "an act of retaliation", and about 100 people took part in it.
Ali Hasanov, an assistant to the President of Azerbaijan on social and political issues, said that official Baku regards this incident as a "criminal incident on domestic grounds." "Such facts cannot harm the friendly and fraternal ties that historically exist between the Azerbaijani and Chechen people," AzerTaj quoted Hasanov as saying.
According to Hasanov, the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Russia plays an important role in strengthening Baku"s cooperation with the republics of the North Caucasus, including Chechnya.
"Russia is a multinational state, the peoples living there preserve and develop their languages and culture. Azerbaijanis living in Russia, like other peoples, can always fully enjoy their national and cultural rights. We urge our compatriots, representatives of the fraternal Chechen and other peoples living in Russia, to use the multicultural atmosphere in this country and the conditions created for good purposes, contributing to the development of friendship between nations, and not allow such negative incidents," Hasanov said.
He expressed confidence that "the forces trying to abuse the incident in Moscow and sow the seeds of discord between our peoples make a big mistake, and they will never realize their dirty intentions." -06D--

The closure of Azerbaijan's land borders was discussed during the parliamentary session on November 25. While the government’s decision cites the coronavirus pandemic as the main reason—despite the World Health Organization declaring its end last year—Zahid Oruj, Chair of the Human Rights Committee in the Milli Majlis, pointed to other factors. He stated, "Opening the borders could result in an influx of hundreds of thousands of non-Azerbaijani refugees due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Additionally, in Iran, many are prepared to cross into Azerbaijan to safeguard their lives and assets amid military strikes. Such waves of refugees could lead to humanitarian, social, and cultural clashes that may threaten political stability."
