Representatives of the Ombudsman visited Ikram Rahimov

Baku/15.02.19/Turan: Employees of the Ombudsman"s Office conducted a sudden monitoring of the SIZO of the State Security Service (SSS), the Ombudsman"s Office said.

They were acquainted with the conditions of detention, food, and medical care for prisoners, treatment of them, and the realization of their rights.

Private meetings were held with a number of individuals, during which they were provided with legal advice.

Among them was received the editor of the website realliq.info Ikram Rahimov, who according to some data holds a hunger strike. However, Rahimov said he did not hold a hunger strike, the report said. Following the visit, discussions were held with the leadership of the jail.

On February 14, Rahimov's relatives reported that he was already on the fourth day of a hunger strike in protest against the falsification of the criminal case against him.

* Rahimov was detained on October 26, 2018, charged with extortion by threats and arrested by a court decision. Prior to his arrest, Rahimov said that he was being persecuted because of the criticism of Azerbaijani presidential aide Ali Hasanov. The Union "For the Freedom of Political Prisoners of Azerbaijan" recognized Rahimov as a political prisoner. -03B06--
