Aliabbas Rustamov Continues Hunger Strike
Baku / 30.07.19 / Turan: On July 30, the lawyer Elchin Sadigov visited the human rights activist Aliabbas Rustamov, who is being on a hunger strike in Prison No. 10. He has been holding the hunger strike from July 25, demanding his release. Rustamov refused to stop the hunger strike and intends to continue it, the lawyer said.
On August 7, a meeting of the Supreme Court has been scheduled to discuss Rustamov"s early release on parole. Earlier lower courts denied him that.
* Rustamov was arrested on June 28, 2014. He was charged under Articles 312.2 (bribery) and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code. The Baku Serious Crimes Court sentenced him to 7 years in prison.
In July 2017, the Supreme Court reduced the sentence to 6 years in prison. Rustamov denied the charges. Human rights activists recognize Rustamov as political prisoner. -21B-
