Another armed incident on the Iranian border
Baku / 12.03.19 / Turan: At 7 o'clock on the morning of March 12, the second armed incident occurred on the Iranian-Azerbaijani border. According to the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, border guards noticed 6 armed violators, moving from Iran, near the village of Ostair, Yardimli region.
Violators refused to comply with the demands of the border guards to stop and opened fire. One of the violators was killed by return fire, and the others, abandoning the cargo they had, retreated back.
When inspecting the terrain, 4 bags of heroin and opium were found, as well as a 12-caliber hunting rifle with cartridges.
The Iranian side was informed about the incident. The commander of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, Elchin Guliyev, arrived at the scene. Investigation is ongoing.
On March 10, the illegal transfer of violators from the Iranian side was prevented on the Iranian-Azerbaijani border. The Azerbaijani border guard Sakhavat Mammadov was killed during an exchange of fire with violators. -16D-
