Another lawyer denied his duties
Baku / 20.11.17 /: Turan: The Presidium of the Bar Association today decided to suspend the powers of lawyer Yalchin Imanov, known for the protection of the rights of many political prisoners in Azerbaijan. The college intends to apply to the court to exclude Imanov. Before the court's decision, Imanov is suspended from participating in the defense.
The formal reason for this was the appeal to the board of the leadership of the Penitentiary Service, which saw in the publication Imanov of the fact of torture in Gobustan prison by the activist of the movement "Muslim Unity" Abbas Huseynov.
The penitentiary service regarded this as "actions aimed at disturbing public order".
In an interview with Turan, Imanov rejected charges in his address. "I did not violate the law on advocacy or professional ethics," Imanov said. He noted that this decision is related to his protection of political prisoners. Imanov intends to continue legal procedures in his defense.
It should be noted that in addition to Imanov, the collegium can punish a number of other lawyers, known for their participation in the protection of political prisoners: Neymat Kerimli, Asabali Mustafayev, Agil Laidzhev and Fakhraddin Mehdiyev. It is noteworthy that the idea of their punishment was introduced by First Deputy Prosecutor General Rustam Usubov.
In the agenda of today's meeting of the college there are also questions regarding Sadigov and Kerimli. We will remind that earlier known lawyers such as Khalid Bagirov, Aslan Ismailov, Elchin Namazov and Alaif Hasanov were excluded from the board. -06D-
