Appeal Court Did Not Release Aziz Orujov
Baku / 09.06.17 / Turan: Baku Appeal Court dismissed the complaint of the Director of Internet TV Channel-13 Aziz Orujov about his arrest, as the lawyer Javad Javadov told Turan.
Aziz Orujov is charged under Articles 192.2.2 (illegal business with the extraction of large income) and 308.2 (abuse of official powers, which entailed grave consequences) of the Criminal Code.
Javadov"s lawyer considers the accusations unfounded, noting that the crimes charged against Orujov under Article 192 were decriminalized years ago.
In particular, Orujov is accused of receiving an income of 8,000 manat as a result of illegal entrepreneurship. However, for an amount of up to 50,000 manat, there is no criminal penalty.
The charges under Article 308.2 have nothing to do with Orujov.
"Aziz Orujov did not sign any grant agreements. The accusation is connected with the Media Research Center Caucasus. However, Orujov was not a plenipotentiary in this NGO. He was not responsible for registering grants. Moreover, the grants of this NGO have been registered," said the lawyer.
According to him, Orujov is being persecuted because of the activities of Channel-13. The defense intends to apply to the European Court of Human Rights against the unreasonable arrest.
Recall that initially Orujov was arrested for 30 days for disobeying the police. Upon expiration, criminal charges were brought against him. -16B06-

In 2017, the Sumgayit City Court ruled to evict the Aliyev family—refugees from Gubadli (Akper, Sarvinaz, Ramil, and two other family members)—from an illegally occupied apartment in the 12th microdistrict, Building 7A, Apartment 35. The court ordered the property be returned to its rightful owner, Samaya Aliyeva. However, the Ministry of Justice intervened, citing a presidential decree from July 1, 2004, which approved a state program for improving the living and working conditions of refugees. Under this directive, refugees without alternative housing cannot be evicted until they are provided with a replacement residence by the Executive Authority.
