Arrested PFPA activist accuses policemen of stealing his money
Baku/03.23.22/Turan: Activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Elkhan Aliyev is on hunger strike at the detention center for persons arrested under the administrative procedure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan.
Aliyev was arrested on March 19 for 30 days on charges of committing administrative offenses of "petty hooliganism" and "disobedience to the police." He denied the accusation. The PFPA called the arrest politically motivated.
According to the PFPA, on March 23, Aliyev called and said that he had been on a hunger strike since the day of his arrest. Aliyev is protesting against the unjustified arrest and the loss of money from his car. Aliyev was detained while he was driving his car. He was rudely dragged out of the car and put into a police car.
He asked to be allowed to take his mobile phone and 2,500 manats ($1,500) from his car, given to him by another person to comply with his request, but he was not allowed to do so.
When in court Aliyev asked about his money that was in the car, he was told that "there was no money in the car." Aliyev is convinced that the police officers who detained him took the money. He intends to continue the hunger strike until the money is returned, the PFPA stressed.
The attempts to get comments from the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were futile.—06B-
