On Sunday a group of residents of Goychay region, located in the central part of Azerbaijan, held a protest in the regional center demanding the resignation of the chief of the local traffic police Vugar Gasimov.
Local residents accused the police chief of the rudeness, extortion, and abuse of power. One of the residents Metin Mammadov said that new boss is very rude to local residents: "He fines all without clarifying the matter, or takes away their car, and always uses bad words when speaking to people".
The head of the executive power of the region Mehti Salimzade met with protesting people, and promised to investigate the case objectively.
Protesters went away, but said that until the regional authorities do not dismiss Vugar Gasimov they will block the road every day. Protesters also insist on the release of their friend, who was detained by the police. People are outraged with the arrest of Fizuli, a former employee of the road police. Fizuli was arrested at the order of Vugar Gasimov. One of the protesters Malik Askerov says that the reason for the protest is that the Gasimov always finds fault with the former traffic police officer Fizuli, " he stopped Fizuli’s car, though there was not any violation, and ordered his people to arrest Fizuli. When Fizuli asked the reason for his detention, Gasimov cursed him. Fizuli beat the chief, and was taken away to the police.
