At Habil Veliyevs Racket Case Trial
Baku / 27.02.18 / Turan: In the Baku Grave Crimes Court chaired by Fikret Garibov the court session on the criminal case of the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Gundelik Baky, Habil Veliyev, continued with the speech of the state prosecutor.
The editor-in-chief of the newspaper Gundelik Baky, Habil Veliyev, was arrested in December 2016 on suspicion of extortion by threats, carrying out operational search activities by persons who do not have the authority to conduct it, using technical means for obtaining confidential information.
In his speech, the prosecutor noted that Veliyev had violated the legislation of the Azerbaijani Republic, which was proved during the trial. According to him, the editor-in-chief, through threats, demanded various amounts of money from citizens, using technical equipment, without the authority to do so.
However, the state prosecutor also noted that for some episodes of the case the charge must be changed. So, the charge of extortion on a large scale should be changed to extortion. Considering all this, the prosecutor asked the court to recognize Habil Veliyev guilty and assign him a penalty of imprisonment for a period of 7.5 years with confiscation of property.
Then the floor was given to lawyers who asked the court for time to prepare for the speech. The court granted the motion, having appointed the trial on March 13. -0-
