The court does not satisfy F.Amirli's complaint
Baku/27.02.18/Turan: Cassation complaint of PFPA Assistant and Director of "Azadlyg" newspaper, Faiq Amirli, was rejected on February 27 in the Supreme Court, reported his lawyer Agil Laidjov. "Speaking at the meeting, Amirli and I asked to justify him. However, the prosecutor called for the dismissal of the complaint. After the meeting, the judge announced that the complaint was not satisfied," said the lawyer.
Faiq Amirli was convicted by the Sabail court for 3 years and 3 months, according to the verdict, he must pay the state 39.000 manats. The Baku Court of Appeal considered the appeal against the verdict, and applied against Amirli the Article 70 of the Criminal Code, and the punishment was replaced by a conditional one. Thus, in September 2017, Amirli left prison with a suspended sentence of 2 years. Then he filed a cassation appeal, demanding an excuse.
F. Amirli was detained on August 20, 2016 on charges of inciting religious hatred. He was also charged with violating public order under the guise of religious rites. Amirli and PFPA themselves rejected these accusations, calling the arrest a measure to end the activities of the "Azadlyg" newspaper. -05B-
