At the trial on the Surkhay Aliyev case
Baku / 09.01.18 / Turan: In the Baku Serious Crimes Court, under the chairmanship of Mahmoud Agalarov, the trial of Surkhar Aliyev, the editor-in-chief of the Yeni Dovr newspaper, his deputy Hikmet Najafli and others took place. They were detained in early December 2016 on suspicion of racketeering and secretly receiving information using technical means, without the authority to do so. In addition, according to the information of the State Security Service, the accused familiarized the victims with women of easy virtue and videotaped, which subsequently blackmailed the victims. The editor-in-chief of the newspaper Gundelik Baku was also detained in this case, but then his case was separated.
At the trial, Judge Agalarov specified the personal data of the accused, after which the lawyer Belyar Mamishov filed a petition to replace the preventive measure against Surkhay Aliyev for house arrest. A similar request was made by Hikmet Najafli's lawyer. The prosecutor asked the court not to satisfy the petition for lack of grounds for this. He stated that the materials of the case were sporadic and the replacement of the preventive measure against the accused was impossible. In addition, the prosecutor asked the court to proceed to the case. The court went to the meeting, after which it announced a decision on dissatisfaction with the motions and ordered a hearing on January 23. -0-
