Author of Song about T. Bagirzadeh Sentenced to Prison
Baku / 26.09.20 / Turan: In the Narimanov District Court on September 25, a verdict was read to Elvin Muradov, a member of the Muslim Unity Movement (MUM). Judge Tural Alekperov sentenced him to 2 years 3 months of imprisonment, having found him guilty under Art. 228.1 (drug trafficking) of the Criminal Code.
Muradov pleaded not guilty, his relatives told Turan.
Muradov disappeared on March 13, and only on March 16th his relatives were officially notified that he was arrested under Article 228.1 and placed in the Kurdakhani detention center. The lawyer, with whom his family signed a contract, is trying to meet with him and find out the details.
The MUM linked the arrest of Muradov, who lived in Russia, to his poems and songs about the leader of the organization, Taleh Bagirzadeh, and other arrested activists.
Muradov on February 5, upon his return from Moscow, was already subjected to a short-term detention. He was taken to the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and released late in the evening. --0----
