Authorities Investigate Consequences of Earthquake (UPDATED)
Baku / 06.06.18 / Turan: Local authorities are busy investigating the extent of damage caused by the strong earthquake that occurred on the evening of June 5.
As the deputy head of the executive power of the Zagatala district Tofig Ahmedov told Turan, cracks appeared on many buildings and some walls collapsed. However, not a single building is completely destroyed. The Commission on Emergency Situations began to study and calculate the damage caused.
Meanwhile, local residents reported the death of one person from the endured stress in the village of Goyam. Another child broke his arm in the neighboring town of Gakh.
Underground shocks of magnitude 5.5 occurred at 22:40. The first shocks lasted 30-40 seconds, and the second - about 20 seconds.

Strong earthquake in the north-west of Azerbaijan
Baku / 05.06.18 / Turan: Strong earthquake occurred in the evening of June 5 in the north-west of Azerbaijan. Underground shocks were recorded on the territory of Zagatala region in 400 km north-west of Baku at 22.40 local time. The epicenter of magnitude was 5.5. Underground shocks were recorded at a depth of 12 km, the Republican Center for Seismology at the National Academy of Sciences reported.
According to the same source, in the epicenter is 24 km. south of the city of Zagatala, the force of the tremors was 6 points.
There is no information about casualties and destruction.
According to information from local residents in the city of Zagatala, people panicked into the streets.

On December 25, an Embraer 190 passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), on a Baku–Grozny flight, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Aktau, Ayxan Suleymanlı, stated that the plane had 67 people onboard, including crew members, 38 of whom died.
