Azerbaijan Announced Opening of Hunting Season, Questions Remain

Baku / 26.05.18 / Turan: An announcement on the opening of the hunting season for wild animals and birds has been posted on the website of the Ministry of Ecology. The season will last until March 16, 2019.

During this period, the shooting of the following species is allowed: the Dagestan tour (from May 26 to October 13, no more than one head per three hunters), the wild boar (September 15 - December 22, no more than one head per three hunters), the hare (17 November - 12 January two head per hunt), and the nutria (6 October - 16 February).

Of birds, the shooting of the following species is allowed: the snipe and the sandpiper (September 15 - November 24, six head per hunt), the goose (13 October - 16 March, one head per hunt), the duck (October 13 - March 16, 6 head per hunt), the coot (13 October - March 16, six head per hunt), the wild pigeon and the quail (August 24 - November 17, six head per hunt).

Hunting for wild birds can be carried out in hunting farms and specially designated places.

On receipt of the relevant permit, shooting is allowed all year round for: the jackal, the raccoon, the gray crow and the magpie.

Boar hunting is allowed on the territory of Lankaran, Astara, Lerik, Gakh, Jalilabad, Zagatala, Imishli, Gusar, Khachmaz, Neftchala, Yardimli, Sheki and Ismayilli regions.

Dagestan tour hunting is allowed in Zagatala, Sheki, Gakh, Ismayilli, Guba and Oguz districts.

Hare hunting is allowed in Shabran, Kurdamir, Salyan, Neftchala, Jalilabad, Bilasuvar, Yevlakh, Lankaran, Zagatala, Agstafa, Gazakh, Zardab, Masalli, Guba, Khachmaz, Imishli, Sabirabad, and Saatli.

Hunting is prohibited on the territory of Agdam, Goygol, Dashkasan, Gadabay, Terter and other border line areas, on the Caspian Sea islands, green and protected areas, and no closer than 1.5 km away from populated areas.

The day before the representatives of the Ministry of Ecology held a press conference, announcing that there are 20-25 thousand hunters in the country. However, the member cards the Union of Hunters are invalid. To have the right to hunt, you need to get a card from the Ministry of Ecology. Why membership in the Union of Hunters, which existed for 70 years, has suddenly become invalid, the Ministry of Ecology does not explain.

Officials of this department also do not explain exactly where hunters have to apply for a hunting license of the Ministry of Ecology, how much the licenses to shoot wild animals cost, what is the current status of hunting farms owned by the Union of Hunters, and etc. -02D-
