Azerbaijan Implements Decisions of ECHR, Chingiz Askerov
Azerbaijan fully execute the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights, according to the plenipotentiary representative of the country in the Strasbourg Court, Chingiz Askerov. He did not agree with the criticism of the non-execution of ECHR judgments by Baku.
"The decisions of the European Court of Human Rights are fully implemented. There are no problems and it is purely political stance and criticism is aimed at political pressure," Askerov said, commenting on the resolution of the Committee of Ministers on the non-implementation of decisions of the ECHR on the case of ex-minister Ali Insanov and the leader of REAL Ilgar Mamedov.
Askerov could not name the number of cases in Azerbaijan, on which the ECHR holds communication with the Azerbaijani government. In his opinion, the number of complaints was "sufficient" and "stable".
Azerbaijan, for its part, has remarks to the activities of the ECHR, and this was reflected in the official letter to the court, he said.
As for Azerbaijan's candidacy for the post of judge of the ECHR, this issue is expected to be discussed at the PACE session in April 2015 and in January, the government should submit their nominations.
Election of the new judges from Azerbaijan is held in conjunction with the fact that Khanlar Hajiyev has stayed in office for two terms.
Azerbaijan has presented three candidates for the post of judge at the ECHR, including the candidacy of Askerov. However, the PACE rejected them because all the three candidates must be real, and not formal alternatives to each other. -16 / 03B-
