Azerbaijani from Khabarovsk Received Eighteen Years in Jail for Killing World Champion
Moscow / 20.12.18 / Turan: The Khabarovsk Regional Court issued a verdict the day before in the case of the murder of the world and European power-lifting champion Andrei Drachev. The accused Anar Allahveranov (an ethnic Azeri citizen of Russia) was sentenced to 18 years in a penal colony, TASS reports. He was convicted under Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia (murder).
Andrey Drachev died on August 20, 2017 in a fight with Anar Allahveranov at a café in the center of Khabarovsk. There were three clashes between the participants of the fight, and in the course of the last Allahveranov kicked Drachev on the asphalt and hit his head with his fist several times. After the power lifter"s death, Allahveranov escaped, but a month later he turned himself in. -02D-

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
