Baidamirli sued the Ministry of Justice
Baku/04.06.21/Turan: The founder of the NGO "Baidamirli Charitable Foundation", Nazim Baidamirli, filed a lawsuit against the Ministry of Justice. He asks the court to oblige the Ministry of Justice to register his organization.
In an interview to Turan agency, the plaintiff stated that the Ministry of Justice had previously refused to register NGO as saying that it was inconsistent with requirements of the Azerbaijani Law “On Non-Governmental Organizations”. That was in January this year. After correcting these errors, Baidamirli again submitted the documents but was refused again. This time, it was said that the documents were not signed by all the founders, nor notarized.
After another corrections, the documents were submitted for the third time but refused under a new pretext.
"The Main Department of Registration and Notary Office of the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan unreasonably aggrieved the state registration of the Baidamirli Charitable Foundation. Each time we submit an application, we are refused for different reasons. At the same time, there is no need in returning documents to eliminate the shortcomings, since the founder has a telephone and other means of communication. You can contact us and clarify unclear issues," Nazim Baydamirli wrote in a statement to the court. He believes that the Ministry of Justice deliberately denies the state registration of the Fund.
It should be noted that a similar problem exists for dozens of NGOs that have been unable to obtain registration for political reasons for years. The policy of the authorities is to register only pro-government NGOs that actually work in favor of the authorities.
International organizations, including the Council of Europe and the OSCE, have for years been asking the Azerbaijani government to address the issue and register all NGOs regardless of their political orientation.-0-
