Bakhtiyar Hajiyev continues hunger strike in pre-trial detention center for 25 days
Baku/02.02.23/Turan: Public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev has been on a hunger strike for the 25th day in the Baku pre-trial detention center-1.
On February 2, the lawyers Zibeyda Sadigova, Elchin Sadigov and Fakhraddin Mehdiyev visited him. Mehdiyeva told that Hajiyev's health continues to deteriorate. “Blood sugar dropped to 56, pressure 90/65. During the hunger strike, he lost 13.5 kg. and now weighs 71 kg.
On February 1, when he was being taken from the court back to the pre-trial detention center, he vomited and lost consciousness. Now he is being held in the medical unit of the pre-trial detention center,” Mehdiyev said.
At a meeting with lawyers, Hajiyev expressed dissatisfaction that he had not yet been visited by representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Sadygova's lawyer filed a motion to transfer Hajiyev to a medical institution of the Penitentiary Service or to a civilian clinic.
Mehdiyev also noted that during the trial, when he was in handcuffs, people in civilian clothes filmed Bakhtiyar, despite his protests.
* Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days. On December 15, Hajiyev went on a hunger strike demanding his release. On December 28, he ended his hunger strike after persistent calls from the public and family members. However, on January 9, he resumed his hunger strike after the appeal court refused to release him and continues to this day.
On January 21, the court extended Hajiyev's arrest for another 1 month. -21B06-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
