Climbers fail to conquer Shishabangmu due to illness
Two Azerbaijani climbers had to stop climbing the 8,000 height Shishapangma (Gosaintan) in Tibet (China) due to illness of Israfil Ashurly, the president of the Mountaineering Federation. According to the press service of the Federation, on May 1 Ashurly and his partner Firuz Dadashov started climbing together with other climbers from the United States and Iran.
During the day the athletes climbed from base camp to the second camp, to the height of 1200 meters in altitude. But the next day the health of Israfil Ashurly deteriorated, and climbers were forced to stop the rise. It soon became clear that Ashurly had a fever began and signs of pulmonary edema.
To avoid the tragedy it was decided to descent urgently. Due to illness the way to base camp took two days. The height of the base camp 5700m was also dangerous for Ashurly, and he was given an artificial oxygen to breathe. Normalization of breathe required further loss of height. Thus, the expedition to the height of 8027 meters was to be terminated; and on May 4 climbers went down to the border with Nepal town Jang Mu (1600m.) In the coming days, the athletes will return home. This is the second difficult season for Azerbaijani climbers. Last year representatives of Azerbaijan almost suffered during the terrorist attack while climbing the northernmost eight-thousand Nanga Parbat (8053) in Pakistan. Then the Taliban shot 10 members of the expedition base camp. Part of the athletes, including representatives of Azerbaijan, were above the base camp at an altitude of 6500 meters. -02В-
