Human rights activist detained as suspect (UPDATED)
Baku/03.30.20/Turan: Human rights activist Elchin Mammad was detained and a detention protocol was drawn up against him. According to members of the Mammad family, he was detained for 48 hours as a suspect under the Article 177.2.4 of the Criminal Code. A detention protocol was drawn up, and Elchin is currently being held in the Sumgait City Police Department.
Mammad’s relatives added that a search was carried out in the office of the Legal Education of Sumgayit Youth organization headed by him. “Based on the court’s decision, the office was searched. The jewelry mentioned in the criminal case was seized in the office. In addition, nine cartridges were found. When Elchin Mammad called home, he said that someone threw these items into the office.” Lawyer Fariz Namazli confirmed the compilation of the detention protocol of Elchin Mammad and said that the investigation is ongoing.

Activist and journalist Elchin Mammad detained
Baku / 30.03.20 / Turan: The head of the NGO Legal Education of Sumgait Youth and the editor-in-chief of the Yukselish Namine (For the Renaissance) Elchin Mammad were detained.
This morning he was taken by police from a house in Sumgait. A lawsuit has been filed against Elchin Mammad under the Article 177.4.2 (theft with causing significant damage ”), the activist managed to inform Turan.
Earlier, he reported that a resident of Sumgayit had filed a complaint against him, who had already perjured herself against another journalist.
“Aysel Mustafayeva, a resident of Sumgait, appealed to me with a request to provide legal assistance in connection with the non-enforcement of a court decision in her favor. Then she complained to me that I allegedly stole 7,500 manat jewelry from her bag. This is absolute nonsense. This woman has already testified against the editor of the criminal.az website Anar Mammadov,” Mammad told Turan.
