Court arrests PFPA activist for three months

Baku/27.07.23/Turan: On July 27, the Sabunchi District Court of Baku satisfied the submission of the investigating authority and chose Elkhan Aliyev, a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), as a measure of restraint in the form of arrest for a period of three months. Turan was informed by his lawyer Neymat Karimli.

According to him, Aliyev denied the accusation and stated that he was being persecuted because of his political activities.
The defense is appealing the verdict.

Elkhan Aliyev was detained on the afternoon of July 26 by employees of the Sabunchu district police department of Baku city.

The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that two more people, Yusif Aliyev and Vafadar Akhundov, were also detained along with Aliyev, the department noted.

According to the version of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, all three are suspected of selling a land plot in the village of Nardaran using forged documents. The case under three articles - fraud with causing damage on a large scale (Article 178.3.2), illegal production of a document conferring rights (Article 320.1) and deliberate use of false documents (Article 320.2 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan) 

Before the arrest, Aliyev distributed a video in which he announced a possible provocation against him.—06B-
