Court of Appeal leaves PFPA activist in custody

Baku / 08.11.19 / Turan: Today the Baku Court of Appeal examined the complaint of the activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Emin Maniev, who was arrested for 30 days.

He was detained 10 days ago in front of the building of the same court, where he came to trial on cases of other activists.

On the same day, the Yasamal district court sentenced him to 30 days of administrative arrest. According to the police, Maniev in front of the court of appeal “expressed foul language, and when the police called him to order, he did not obey.”

However, as the lawyer of Zibeyd Sadigov noted, Maniev was detained in front of a large number of witnesses.

She petitioned to interrogate witnesses and watch video footage distributed on the Internet at the time of Maniev’s detention.

“All this would confirm that Maniev was detained immediately upon leaving the courthouse, and he did not swear and did not resist anyone,” the lawyer said.

Maniev himself said that since the morning he noticed the surveillance of people in civilian clothes.

Ultimately, the applications and complaints were not granted. –06D—
