Customs Committee confirms the arrest of its colleague in Turkey (UPDATED)

The  State Customs Committee ( SCC) confirmed the arrest of  the  Head Sadarak Customs Administration, Mirmuhammed Seyidova, in Turkey. According to an official of the  SCC,  Seyidov left for  Istanbul on December 9  to treat his family members.

On December 17, on his way  back with  his family by the flight Istanbul- Kars , he was detained by police at the airport  of Kars.

The Azerbaijani Embassy in Ankara and the consulate general in Kars is taking the necessary steps to resolve the issue as soon as possible, the report said . Reason for Seyidov’s detention  is not disclosed.

Sadarak Customs is  located in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and is a notorious, where businessmen are harassed, journalists are  subject to pressure for reporting complaints  against customs  officers. -03D06-

December 17 the head of the Sadarak customs point of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan Mirmuhammed Seyidov was detained in Turkey.

According to Turkish media , the detention is connected with the facts of smuggling through the customs checkpoint on the border between Turkey and Nakhchivan. Seyidov was arrested in the city of Kars, where he arrived from Istanbul with management staff to combat organized crime. From Kars Seyidov was escorted to Igdir.

According to Turkish media, the operation involved 280 police officers. As part of the operation at the customs point Dilyuchu were detained 7 Turkish customs officers and 10 employees of transportation companies .

The Consul of Azerbaijan in Kars Asiman Aliyev arrived at the police station to meet with Seyidov.

Attempts of Turan to get a comment from the Customs Committee of Azerbaijan , as well as from the Sadarak customs point were to no avail . Official representatives of the customs say they know nothing.

The press service of the Foreign Ministry told Turan that this fact was being clarified. -03B-
